Outcome

A launch brand and custom-built site for a new Welsh infrastructure investor.

Vale Investments is a Wales-centred development and investment partner, founded by engineers Randall Smith and Chris Lewis. We ran the brand workshop, built the strategy and identity, mapped the site, and shipped a custom-coded one-page website ready for the team to grow into.

Vale Investments full logo: the V icon and ‘Vale Investments’ wordmark, the primary brand mark.
Vale Investments colour palette: Carbon Green, Valley Green, Spring Mist and Limestone Grey.
Vale Investments typography: Instrument Sans in use across headings and body copy.

The outcome

Vale needed to exist as a brand before it could raise capital and open doors. The founders had a strong track record through their engineering group, IPM. Vale itself had no name presence, no identity and no website. Investors, landowners and technology partners had nothing to look at.

We delivered the brand and the site that let Vale start those conversations with credibility.

Delivered:

  • A brand strategy workshop that set the vision, positioning, personas and tone of voice
  • A full verbal identity: positioning, messaging, brand line and language rules
  • A visual identity system: logo suite, four-colour palette and Instrument Sans typography
  • A one-page site map and full copy, built from the approved strategy
  • A custom-coded website, hand-built rather than templated, at valeinvestments.co.uk

The site launched as a credibility piece: a clear, professional landing page that tells people who Vale is and routes them to a conversation. It is built to expand into a full multi-page site as the business takes on projects it can show.

The challenge

Vale was starting from nothing visible. The model is also genuinely hard to explain. Vale sits between consultancy and capital, taking a stake in sustainable infrastructure projects rather than charging a fee and walking away. That distinction is the whole proposition, and it had to land fast with people who are technical, busy and tired of empty promises.

Three real problems to solve:

  • No brand. No name presence, identity or messaging for a business that needed to look established from day one.
  • A bespoke model. Every Vale project is different, so there is no fixed menu of services. That makes most standard “what we do” structures useless.
  • Four audiences, different concerns. Investors want transparent returns and strong ESG. Landowners want a fair, long-term lease. Technology partners want a track record and fair negotiation. Authorities want compliance. One page had to speak to all of them without splintering.

The founders set firm limits. No industry clichés. No “net zero”, no “leveraging synergies”. A professional, technical tone with a subtext of openness. Confident, without tipping into corporate theatre.

Vale Investments focus areas: Energy, Sustainable Property Development and Infrastructure Services.

Our approach

The work started with a brand strategy workshop with Randall. The point was not to invent a brand. It was to pull a clear, repeatable strategy out of two engineers’ heads and the way the business actually works.

The workshop produced the foundations:

  • Positioning built on the gap Vale fills. Consultants stop at advice. Large funds stay distant from delivery. Vale brings engineering rigour, local knowledge and aligned incentives into one model. Skin in the game, not just a fee.
  • A clear set of audiences. Investors, landowners, technology partners and authorities, each with their concerns mapped so the site could speak to them directly.
  • A brand line that carries the model. “From plan to progress, together.” It holds the partnership and the long-term commitment in one phrase.
  • Language rules with intent. Sustainable, not green. A journey, not a slogan. Proudly Welsh, with UK-wide reach. Plain and grounded, never inflated.

From there we built the identity and the site. Colour and type came straight from the brand guidelines: Carbon Green, Valley Green, Spring Mist and Limestone Grey, set in Instrument Sans. The site map structured the single page as a deliberate route: introduce Vale, explain the model, show the three focus areas, demonstrate how it works, build credibility through the founders, then guide the visitor to contact.

Key decisions:

  • A one-page site that reads as a route, not a list. Each section moves the visitor from “who is this” to “I should call them.” The “How We Work” section breaks the bespoke model into three plain steps: Identify, Align, Deliver.
  • A contact form mapped to the real personas. The “I’m reaching out as a…” field reflects the actual audiences from the strategy, so the first enquiry arrives with useful context.
  • Built for what comes next. The site is structured so the team can add services, partners and project stories later without a rebuild.

Built with Claude Code

The website was hand-built in code using Claude Code, not assembled from a template. For a brand whose whole pitch is engineering rigour and doing things properly, a templated site would have undercut the message. A custom build matched it.

What that gave Vale:

  • Speed without the template trap. A bespoke, deploy-ready site, produced quickly, with no platform lock-in and no theme to fight.
  • Brand fidelity to the pixel. Colour, typography, logo clear-space and the topographic brand pattern pulled directly from the guidelines, not approximated to fit a theme. The palette was taken from page 34 of the guidelines, not a starter set.
  • Fast and accessible by default. Static Astro build, AVIF and WebP responsive images, semantic structure, visible focus states and reduced-motion support. The main page ships with effectively no client-side JavaScript, so it loads fast. A 1.2MB source photo serves as little as 22KB depending on the device.
  • Engineering judgement, not just output. The build caught and fixed a hero video that would not have played on iPhones, and self-hosted the brand typeface so there is no third-party font request.
  • Room to grow. Clean, structured code the team can extend into a full multi-page site when there are projects to show.

This is the differentiator worth stating plainly. Alchemy can build brand-faithful, custom websites at the speed people expect from templates, without the compromises templates force.

What it does for Vale Investments

Vale now has what it needed to launch: a name with presence, an identity that looks established, and a website that earns the first call instead of sitting there as a placeholder. The brand holds the model that makes Vale different, says it plainly, and routes the right people to a conversation. One workshop set the direction. The strategy, identity and site all kept faith with it, and the whole thing is built to grow as the business does.
