A brand strategy workshop with Alchemy costs £2,000 to £5,000 plus VAT. That covers the research before the day, the workshop itself, and a full written brand strategy within two weeks.

Across the UK you'll see prices from free to five figures, because "brand workshop" gets used for different things. Below is what our price includes, what moves you up or down the range, and the questions to ask when you compare quotes.

What the £2,000 to £5,000 covers

Our version is called the Brand & Growth Workshop. The session is one day, but it's the smallest part of the work. Most of the cost sits in the research before it and the analysis after it.

  1. Before the day. We research your business, your market and your competitors, then use a 30-minute Clarity Call to plan the questions. No two workshops use the same questions.
  2. The day itself. One day with your leadership team, and sometimes your sales or marketing people too. At our studio in Abergavenny or at your office.
  3. The analysis. We record the session so nothing depends on rushed notes, then work through everything that was said.
  4. Your brand strategy, within two weeks. A full document covering where the business is going, your positioning, who you're for and who you're not, messaging and tone of voice, values and messaging pillars, and a plan for putting it to work.
  5. A call to go through it. You read it first, then we go through changes and next steps together.
  6. A recommendation for what comes next. It might be a rebrand, content, or guidance as your team grows. If you'd rather take it from here yourself, we book a 90-day follow-up when you sign off, to see how it's going.

The running order and the exercises we use on the day are in our brand workshop outline. This post is about the money.

What changes the price

Where you land depends on the size and complexity of the business. This is what usually moves it.

  • How many brands sit under one roof. Nearer £2,000: one business, one name. Nearer £5,000: a parent group, sub-brands, or acquisitions on the way.
  • How many audiences the brand has to work for. Nearer £2,000: one main type of buyer. Nearer £5,000: buyers, recruits, partners, referrers, alumni.
  • Heritage and visual direction. Nearer £2,000: language only. Nearer £5,000: history to protect, plus art direction for the identity work that follows.
  • Recruitment. Nearer £2,000: not part of the brief. Nearer £5,000: hiring is holding growth back, so employer brand is in scope.
  • How much of the business is changing. Nearer £2,000: steady, settled. Nearer £5,000: new services, new markets, a new structure, all at once.

What doesn't change the price

  1. How many people are in the room. A £15M business with one founder in the workshop still has more to work through than a £1M business with a team of six. We price the business, not the headcount.
  2. Rounds of changes. We don't cap amends on the strategy. You keep going until it's right.
  3. What you buy afterwards. You don't commit to anything beyond the workshop until you've read the strategy.

Three real examples, smallest to largest

These are all workshops we've run. We don't publish what any client paid. What they show is why one strategy takes more work than another.

Digeo Productions: a small team that needed to look like a company

Digeo makes educational video. When we ran their workshop, the business was known as its two founders. Their goal was to be seen as a team-led production company that could take on bigger, more creative work.

The strategy ran to 13 pages. Because the founders wanted to choose for themselves, it gave them options rather than one answer: ten taglines, five positioning statements, and three versions each of a vision and a mission. It was one business with one audience and one clear job, which put it at the lower end of the work.

Christ College Brecon: heritage, five audiences and a written trail

Christ College Brecon is an independent all-through school in the Brecon Beacons, founded in 1541. Its strategy ran to fourteen sections, including five priority audiences in order (from local day families to international families and agents), how the prep school, sixth form and boarding sit under one brand, and heritage and art direction for the identity work that followed.

It went from a first draft with options to an approved third version, with a table recording every change and why it was made. That's what uncapped amends look like in practice, and it didn't add to the bill.

Aqualogic: one business inside a growing group

Aqualogic works in water conservation and demand management for the UK water sector, and is part of the Sustec group. Six of its leadership team were in the room.

The questions went well past positioning: how Aqualogic should sit alongside Sustec, what should stay distinct as the group buys more businesses, why the right people would want to work there, and what the next website had to do differently. The strategy that came out of it ran to 42 pages, covering market and competitors, brand architecture, employer brand and a rollout plan. That's the top end of the work.

How UK workshop prices compare

"Brand workshop" covers everything from a free morning event to a full agency programme. Prices only make sense once you know what you leave with.

  1. Free or low-cost events (councils, colleges, business support): free to around £50. You leave with: general tools and ideas. Nothing written about your business. Suits founders before launch.
  2. Public group workshops: around £950 plus VAT per business. You leave with: a framework filled in alongside other businesses. Suits sole traders and very early businesses.
  3. Facilitation only: a half-day or day rate. You leave with: notes from the session. You write the strategy yourselves. Suits teams with someone who can write it up.
  4. Workshop plus written strategy (ours): £2,000 to £5,000 plus VAT. You leave with: a full brand strategy and a recommendation for what comes next. Suits SMEs, professional services and charities.
  5. Agency strategy and identity programmes: from around £7,500, often into five figures. You leave with: strategy, a new identity and guidelines in one package. Suits businesses already sure they need a full rebrand.

Questions to ask when you compare quotes

  1. Is the written strategy included, or only the session?
  2. Who analyses what was said, and who writes it up?
  3. How long until we have the document?
  4. Are rounds of changes capped?
  5. What happens afterwards, and do we have to buy it?
  6. Is the price plus VAT, or including it?

The first question matters most. A cheap workshop that ends with a wall of sticky notes leaves the hardest part to you.

Is a brand strategy workshop worth the money?

It's worth it when something expensive is about to be built on top of it: a rebrand, a new website, a sales push, a first marketing hire. Without a written strategy, those projects get briefed on opinion and argued about on taste. Our brand discovery workshop post covers what the session itself settles.

One thing we hear often on Clarity Calls: "we've had a rebrand, the visuals are done, but we don't really know what to do with it." That's usually a business that paid for the look before anyone wrote down the thinking behind it. The workshop costs less than the work it protects.

What we won't do is promise sales figures that depend on things outside our control. What we promise is a brand and growth plan built to attract the right leads, from the right audience, at the right price point.

Frequently asked questions

Is a brand strategy workshop worth it for a small business?

Yes, if you're about to spend money on a rebrand, website or marketing. The strategy is what those projects get briefed against. If you're not planning any of that yet, the free exercises in our brand workshop outline are a good place to start.

How long does a brand strategy workshop take?

Our workshop is one day. The written strategy follows within two weeks, then we go through it with you on a call.

Does the number of people in the room change the cost?

No. The price follows the size and complexity of the business, not the headcount. Bring the people who need to be there.

Is VAT included in the price?

No. £2,000 to £5,000 plus VAT works out at £2,400 to £6,000 including VAT. If your organisation can't reclaim VAT, as many charities can't, budget for the higher figure.

Do we have to buy anything after the workshop?

No. The strategy ends with our recommendation, and you decide once you've read it. You can take it from here, have us guide your team, or have us deliver it.

Where does the workshop happen?

At our studio in Abergavenny, or at your office if getting the team away is the harder ask. We confirm the price on the Clarity Call before anything is booked.

Book a Clarity Call

If you're weighing up a workshop, the next step is a 30-minute Clarity Call. We'll talk through where the business is, what you want to change, and where in the £2,000 to £5,000 range you'd land. If we're not the right people, we'll tell you who is.

Where the market figures come from: free and low-cost events, for example the NI Business Info brand strategy workshop (free) and the Crafts Council half-day workshop (£50); public group workshop, Spreckley's Brand Arrow day (£950 plus VAT for one delegate, 2024); agency programmes, Inkbot Design's fixed £7,500 Blueprint and Ikon London's research putting UK brand strategy packages at £2,500 to £50,000, as cited by Huddle Creative.
