Handled with Care: Repositioning Christie Residential
Brand Strategy, Visual Identity & Rollout
Christie Residential is an independent estate agency based in Abergavenny, known locally for its experience, care, and long-standing community presence. While the team delivered a high standard of service, their brand no longer reflected how they actually worked or what set them apart in a crowded property market.
The challenge wasn’t visibility.
It was differentiation and trust.
The challenge
The property sector is dominated by two extremes: large corporate chains and personality-led “Insta-agents”. Christie Residential sat deliberately outside both, but their brand didn’t clearly communicate that difference.
They needed a brand that:
- Felt calm, grown-up, and reassuring
- Reflected decades of experience without feeling dated
- Communicated care without becoming soft or informal
- Worked consistently across signage, print, and digital
Most importantly, it had to feel honest. No hype. No overpromising.

Our approach
We treated this as a brand clarity project, not a surface-level refresh. The work began with strategy sessions focused on how Christie Residential actually operates day to day and where they consciously differ from competitors.
From that work, a clear picture emerged. Christie Residential is defined by presence and follow-through. They don’t disappear once an offer is agreed. They stay involved, manage complexity, and support clients through every stage of the move.
That understanding shaped every decision that followed.

Brand strategy & positioning
The strategy centred on Christie Residential as the calm in the chaos of moving. A deeply local agency that combines professionalism with genuine care, without leaning on gimmicks or inflated claims.
This led to a clear brand idea: “Your home, handled with care“
The positioning was supported by a small set of strategic pillars that informed messaging, tone, and visual decisions:
- Experience that guides clients through complexity
- Care shown through consistency, not friendliness alone
- Strong local knowledge rooted in Abergavenny
- Fair, transparent ways of working
- Commitment to the full journey, from valuation to completion
These pillars ensured the brand stayed grounded and consistent across every touchpoint.

Tone of voice
Tone of voice was treated as a core brand asset, not an afterthought. Property language often feels either overly corporate or overly performative. Christie Residential needed neither.
The voice was designed to be:
- Plain-speaking and human
- Calm and supportive during stressful moments
- Confident without sounding boastful
- Grounded in local knowledge and experience
Everything reads as if it’s coming from someone who knows what they’re doing and takes responsibility for seeing things through.

Visual identity
The visual system reinforces trust and warmth without distraction. Colour, typography, and layout were all selected to feel stable, approachable, and professional in real-world use.
Key elements include:
- A heart-led icon formed from homes, subtly expressing care
- A blue-led primary palette that signals trust and reliability
- Warm accent colours used sparingly to add balance
- Typography that blends friendliness with clarity and authority
Nothing is decorative for the sake of it. Every element supports readability, consistency, and confidence.

Brand rollout, office relocation & stationery
The brand rollout was coordinated with the office relocation and full refurbishment, creating a clear and cohesive shift for clients. We supported Christie Residential across all branded applications, including the design and production of every office material and stationery item used day to day.

This included:
- External shop frontage and signage
- Interior brand applications throughout the refurbished office
- Printed marketing materials and large-format assets
- A complete suite of office stationery and client-facing documents
- Social media templates and digital graphics
- Website banners and supporting visuals
- A comprehensive set of brand guidelines
Every touchpoint was designed to reinforce the same calm, professional experience.

Client feedback
Working closely with Brychan Todd, Branch Manager, meant the work was constantly tested against the realities of running the branch day to day. That collaboration is reflected in how the project was received once the brand and office move were live.
“We have recently rebranded with the assistance of Dave and Jess at Alchemy. They were fantastic from start to finish. It was obvious at the initial meeting that their approach was much more than simply smartening up our logo and livery. They were at pains to get into the DNA of what we felt Christie Residential was about; to really get under our skin.
This led to the exhaustive ‘brand bible’ and a successful overhaul of our messaging and look. We love it and it seems our current and new clients love it too.
We were also moving premises at the same time and they were hugely helpful with the practical stuff too, and prompt with everything when deadlines loomed large. Dave and Jess have provided an exceptional service and have been lovely to deal with — good humoured and patient in the face of sometimes challenging (stupid) questions, and a real pleasure at every stage of the process.”
— Brychan Todd, Branch Manager

Outcome
Christie Residential now has a brand and physical space that accurately reflect how the business operates. Clients experience the same reassurance and clarity everywhere, from the moment they enter the new office to the paperwork they receive, to the final handover of keys.
The brand feels:
- Professional without being corporate
- Warm without being informal
- Confident without being loud
Most importantly, it feels like Christie Residential, shaped by Phil and Brychan, grounded in Abergavenny, and built around being there for clients all the way.
